1. Review of Norms and Purpose "As a Learning Team we share and learn in order to Lead"
Discussion -
Action Item - Poster for all - so host site and hang in meeting area.

2. Social Studies Curriculum
Discussion -
Amy spoke about the SS Curriculum. They have had 2 meetings. The state dept. was suppose to have a committee to start the re-writing of their standards and that has not happened yet. There will be a direct link between literacy standards and research based standards implemented with content created with technological tools. Conversations with 21st Century curriculum looking instead of fact re-call and history more 21st century skills with a more thematic based approach. More of an electronic resource is a possibility. We need to integrate social studies and language arts because of time in the day. Emphasis in non-fiction vs. fiction based writings. Nancy McCoy and Amy have been talking about the use of more historical fiction. They may be looking at a social studies test at the state level. The research based skills and more of these skills being taught in social studies as well as an integration of these skills with language arts especially in the middle levels.
Will there be funding for the media centers to support the curriculum at each grade level? I don't know right now - we are having conversations about not purchasing textbooks then where will that money be spend? Are you looking at models for not using books, yes we may buy a textbook for the classroom but a digital format for home use. Elementary people like the bins and tub - it helps keep them organized and what to teach. The tubs are difficult to manage - there is not a district home for those tubs like Science.
Subscription - Real Lives - we are challenged with trying to pay for those subscriptions on an annual basis.
Right now do you want us to give you good resources? Get your ideas to Amy so they can start requesting copies. We can't do anything until the state dept. lets us know what is going to happen. Please let your teachers know that we are able to find resources and help them in the process. The media specialists are the team they can use to help out with age level specific topics. Alice has requested that purchases be shared with the media specialists so we can give feedback to the committee.
Request that standard issued resources be also put into Media Centers to support student work.

Action Items - The media specialists should start looking for supplemental materials, and help with the selection process of those subject areas. Please share you ideas with Beth and Amy and they can share them with the group. Amy and Beth can work together to order sample materials to help with the process.
We can look for online atlas/globe etc. that can be used with Smartboard

3. Technology Update
Discussion
Introduction of Jen Huwe.
Phones: Wade made winter scene decision on phones. Clarification of 10 digit dialing, not 7. Going well so far. Moving phones can be done if there is networking available. $250/line for adding one, but there is already a long list. Are there options for making phones more mobile? Ring tones can be changed to differentiate among phones. Time elapsed before pickup (not number of rings) can be changed - send request to Help Desk as it's a system level configuration. Hold off on requests for about a week before sending them in - things like adding the second line to a phone. Phones cannot be moved to a different data outlet without being handled through tech. Trainings have been done for "power users." Will be looking for time in staff meetings for trainings.
Website: Please give feedback. Less text on front page. Plan to go live over summer. Design will be solidified into January. By February we can start moving content. It will be a hosted provider, so loading time should not be a problem. New webmaster will be hired full time for next year for keeping things updated. Many toolsets will be available for teaching side of things. Media Center presence on web page? Navigation is still under discussion.
Turning Tech: Working on idea to change model of SRS clickers. Currently they are given to specific classrooms where they are used by the teacher (or not). Looking at idea to change it to a per/student model and setting teachers up with receivers. Still in discussion... In middle and HS clickers will travel with students. In Elem. they can live in the classroom, but travel to specialists when needed. There are not a long-term solution, but is a good fit for now and is a stepping stone to future things. It is strongly rooted in our assessment model. It will be a shared cost with buildings from their Tech money. Could move to 2nd grade as well. Senteos could get moved down to 2nd. They are no longer a district initiative. Notebook software has new features coming out for response systems that would work with any device.) How should we advise our tech committees? Buildings can proceed with purchases through tech funds at the building's discretion.
Loss of Tech Items: It comes out of building money. There will be avenues for repeat offenders. Wade is writing up a new AUP which will outline this.
Media Center Computers: When are they ready for updating? Current machines running very slowly. Replacement cycle for next year - lab replacements. Lots of discussion on this topic - are labs an old model? do we move to laptops? Replacements will be made based on age for next year. List will be solidified by January.

Action Item - Wade will update us at the next meeting.

4. Destiny Update
Discussion- Tina will be meeting with Jennifer Huwe, Marie Reed, Bob and Michael at ISCORP about auto-updates to the Destiny server in January. Linda is still having problems uploading pictures. People also are having problems printing barcodes.

Action Items - Tina will send out an update after the meeting.

5. TIES Update
Discussion-
Becky's experience not so good.
Digital Citizenship session was good - Becky will forward links.
Notebook coming out with new stuff.
Felt MEMO was more beneficial to her to attend
Peggy Sharp ideas - text language ideas ATOR (At your own risk), LLTA (lots and lots of thunderous applause), DGT (Don't go there), CBT (Cried big Tears, LOLZ (lots of laughs)

Action Items -

6. Article Discussion:Three recent articles with direct ties to Media Centers. Choose one or more to take a look at.

Discussion: Action Item - The article in the Star Tribune was discussed. This is an unfortunate situation that has been going on for some time. We need to be vigilant about recording what we do on a daily basis and how we are helping people be more successful, teachers and students alike.
